Elections Commission (EC) has said that it expects to receive around 100,000 re-registration forms by Saturday night.

EC President Ahmed Shareef on Saturday said they have already received 86,000 re-registration forms and expects to receive more before the deadline.

Shareef said 34 to 35 percent of the voters are expected to re-register their voting location.

The commission earlier extended its deadline to re-register from 9pm Saturday to 12am Sunday.

There have been increasing complaints that some voters have not been re-registered after submitting their forms. In response, EC said that they have processed forms submitted by individuals but more time is needed to process forms submitted in bundles.

Shareef also expressed concern over claims made on social media regarding September’s election and denied that any members were planning to resign.

President Abdulla Yameen is set to run in the election for a second term and is up against Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, the Joint Opposition presidential candidate.
