Alifushi island in Raa atoll has had a generator installed after a five-day power outage on the island.

The 600-kilowatt generator, which was brought to the island at around 2:15 pm on Friday was installed on Saturday.

A 400-kilowatt generator that was used to supply electricity to the island’s powerhouse had failed during the installation process, which had caused the delay in the new generator being active for use.

Officials from the state utilities company, Fenaka Corporation, had attempted to synchronize the aforesaid 400-kilowatt generator with another 200-kilowatt generator at the powerhouse after the initial blackout – caused by a malfunction in the primary generator. However, they were unable to do so due to nature of the panel board use at the powerhouse.

All 2,800 people resident on the island had lived without electricity for the better part of five days, after said malfunction offered on Tuesday.
