President Abdulla Yameen has extended this year's Eid-al-Adha holidays.

President Yameen, on Wednesday, declared that August 19- a Sunday- will be a public holiday, making the whole week a public holiday.

1st of Zul-Hijja falls on August 12.

"The President's decision was made in order to give maximum days for the public to enjoy Eid-al-Adha", said the President's Office.

Government offices are to reopen on August 26.

In the Islamic lunar calendar, Eid-al-Adha falls on the 10th day of Zul-Hijjah and is the second of two Islamic holidays celebrated worldwide each year.
