Opposition's running mate, Faisal Naseem has said that those that suffered the most due to President Abdulla Yameen's autocracy are 'the people of ADh. Maamigilli island'.

He made the statement during a meeting with the island's campaign team on Monday night, where he highlighted that Maamigilli residents have seen closely how anyone that joins the reform movement is targeted by the incumbent president.

Noting that 'anyone that joins the reform movement are being sent behind bars', Naseem spoke of Jumhooree Party leader, Maamigilli constituency MP Qasim Ibrahim.

He said that Qasim has always been a generous contributor in any work that helps the people, as well as the reform movement.

Naseem added that it 'saddens' him that the current administration has jailed Qasim 'unjustly'. He was sentenced to over 38 months last August, on a charge of bribery with the aim to undermine the government.

He said that this is why they should vote for the opposition candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih in September's election, as well as 'to say no to corruption and tyranny'.

Naseem departed on a two-day tour to Alifu Dhaalu on Monday. Officials that accompanied him on the trip include Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)'s vice president Mohamed Shifaz, Maradhoo constituency MP Ibrahim Shareef, Adhaalath Party's MP for Makunudhoo constituency Anara Naeem and Adam Azim and Mohamed Maleeh Jamal from Jumhooree Party.

While the opposition's campaign aims to visit all inhabited islands in the country, in order to ensure this Solih and Naseem have split up into two teams; Solih just concluded a successful tour of Baa atoll.
