The Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) has stated that the police service has begun an investigation into the ship that was found grounded in Gaafu Alif atoll.
Last Wednesday night, MNDF received report of the crewless ship of unknown origin being found grounded on a reef of an uninhabited island called Hagevilla.
Speaking to RaajjeMV on Monday, MNDF’s information officer Captain Ibrahim Azim said that after their team initiated a rescue mission last Thursday and found that no one was onboard, they have handed over the investigation to the police.
He said that only the police investigation will bring to light its nationality and function. However, RaajjeMV has been unable to contact the police service for further details.
Captain Azim added that the ship is taking in water through a three-foot hole on the hull.
