The government is already providing security Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, the running mate of President Abdulla Yameen, but no protection has yet been provided to opposition coalition candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and his running mate Faisal Naseem.
Solih and his campaign team was targeted for assault during their door-to-door campaign in Hulhumale’ earlier this month. Afterwards, home minister Azleen Ahmed said that he had requested the police to investigate the incident, but the police have yet to respond or make any arrests in the matter.
