While there are less than two months before the Presidential Elections, the ruling Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM) is yet to release its manifesto.

The main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party had publicized its manifesto of pledges to citizens 85 days prior to election day.

MDP had publicized its manifesto at the party’s congress held in Alif Alif atoll Ukulhas island on the 30th of June. Jumhooree Party, as well as Adhaalath party had assembled their manifestos as well and work has begun to accumulate the joint opposition parties manifesto.

President Abdulla Yameen had previously said that the ruling party’s manifesto is a “surprise”. Speaking at a ruling party gathering held in May, President Yameen had revealed that PPM’s manifesto will be publicized after Eid-Al-Fitr. However, the ruling party had failed to publicize its manifesto even after a month had passed since Eid-Al-Fitr celebrations concluded.

PPM's Secretary General and Member of Parliament for Nilandhoo constituency, Abdulla Khaleel failed to answer RaajjeMV's calls seeking a comment on the matter.

While there are only 13 days remaining before the window to submit application forms closes, President Yameen is yet to submite his candidacy for the September polls.

The Elections Commission on Saturday approved opposition coalition’s presidential candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s candidacy for the election.
