President Yameen ‘angered’ over being told ihavan will not be completed

Adeeb said he had told President Yameen this in 2015 when the government was negotiating with the opposition
He said that the opposition had fulfilled its side of the agreements but that President Yameen refused to fulfill the government’s part and release the politicians

Jailed former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb has revealed that President Abdulla Yameen was angered when he was told that the government will not be able to bring in major investments or develop the Ihavandhippolhu atoll.

The development of the atoll, named the ihavan project, was a key pledge of President Yameen’s administration.

Adeeb revealed this through his lawyers in a press release to mark the 1,000th day of his imprisonment.

In the press release, Adeeb said that he had told President Yameen that the government would be unable to bring in major investments or work on the ihavan project if the government continues to keep the political leaders in prison.

Adeeb said he had told President Yameen this in 2015 when the government was negotiating with the opposition and that after being told this President Yameen became angry and asserted that he would not be releasing the politicians.

In the press release, Adeeb said that disagreements between him and President Yameen began after the President had refused to implement the government’s agreements with the opposition and that a few days after their conversion, Adeeb said he was framed for being behind the blast inside the presidential speedboat.

Noting that Adeeb was the top delegate of the government during the negotiations, he said that the opposition had fulfilled its side of the agreements but that President Yameen refused to fulfill the government’s part and release the political prisoners, following which Adeeb had told him that they would be unable to bring in major investments or complete the ihavan project if the politicians remain in jail.
