South-Galolhu MP Ahmed Mahloof has called on President Abdulla Yameen’s running mate Dr. Mohamed Shaheem to resign as the Chancellor of the Islamic University of Maldives.
Dr. Shaheem was chosen as the ruling party’s running mate on Saturday night.
Dr. Shaheem, who stepped into the political arena within Adhaalath Party (AP), was the Islamic Minister in President Dr. Mohamed Waheed and President Yameen’s administration.
He had resigned as President Yameen’s Islamic Minister after the government arrested party leader Imran Abdulla. He then resigned from AP citing contradicting principles.
In a tweet on Sunday, MP Mahloof noted that AP leader Imran remains in prison while Dr. Shaheem has “agreed to Yameen’s thievery and tyranny.” He urged the Islamic University Chancellor to not make his position political and not to “take undue benefits” and resign.
In the next tweet, Mahloof accused Dr. Shaheem of being a hypocrite and being “willing to do anything for money.”
“It is not proper to even look at such fake religious-cap-wearing people.”
