The parliament has scheduled the appointment of a new Secretary General on the agenda for Monday’s sitting.

The appointment was scheduled according to Article 12(c) of the parliamentary regulation.

The parliament closed the opportunity to apply for the position on June 18.

A Secretary General needs to be over the age of 25, have completed a higher education in the field, and have the capability to give recommendations and negotiate with the parliament.

MVR 50,000 of salary and benefits will be given to a Secretary General.

Secretary General Ahmed Mohamed gave his resignation on February 4 after 12 years in the position.

Ahmed Mohamed resigned after the government refused to abide by the Supreme Court ruling on February 1 that ordered the reinstatement of the 12 opposition MPs that were dismissed by the Elections Commission (EC).
