Opposition presidential candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that the Joint Opposition’s running mate will be finalized today (Sunday).
Responding to a question asked during a meeting with residents of Lhaviyani atoll in capital Malé City on Sunday morning, the Lhaviyani Hinnavaru constituency MP said that senior officials of the Joint Opposition are to meet later on Sunday, where they are to finalize his running mate for this year’s presidential election.
He further assured that the person selected as running mate will be welcomed by all opposition parties.
When pressed on the gender of the running mate, Solih said that they do not discriminate by gender.
While Solih revealed that a running mate will be selected on Sunday, he emphasized that an announcement will be made on July 12. However, JP had said that a running mate will be announced on July 10.
The Joint Opposition has decided to select its presidential candidate from Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) and running mate from JP.
