Former President Mohamed Nasheed has said that this will be the strongest year for Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).

The leader of MDP said this on Twitter to celebrate the 13th anniversary of the party on Tuesday.

In the tweet, Nasheed said that President Abdulla Yameen will curse the opposition party this year but that it will be stronger despite it.

Nasheed made the claim possibly because he was sentenced to 13 years in prison on the 13th day of March of that year. Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom and the two Justices were also on the 13th day this June. Some other political prisoners were also convicted on the 13th day of the month.

President Yameen denied claims that he practices black magic at a press conference in July 2017.

While the presidential election is slated for September, the government has been cracking down on opposition activities.
