India's MEA addressing Maldives work permit case with 'utmost importance'

The Indian government is looking into the reported inability for their citizens to acquire work permits in the Maldives with ‘utmost seriousness’.
Indian ‘The Hindu’ said its sources have informed them that the Ministry of External Affairs is looking into the matter.
“The Ministry of External Affairs has taken up the matter strongly at various levels and has urged the Maldivian government to abide by the terms of the bilateral visa regime in place since 1979”, The Hindu reported.
The same newspaper ran an article on Wednesday, on the griming relations between India and the Maldives have ‘hit Indian job opportunities', ran article stating that visa refusals are on the ‘strict directive’ from the Maldivian President’s Office.
Relations between India and Maldives have been especially sour since it called on the island nation to implement the Supreme Court of February 1, which President Yameen describes as an attempted “judicial coup”. India continues its call to implement the “ruling issued by the Supreme Court’s full bench”, and not one passed later after the contentious arrests of two justices.
