A police Special Operations (SO) officer has been slapped with four charges for his alleged involvement in confronting police officers at a protest calling for the implementation of the Supreme Court order on February 1.

Corporal Ali Naseer was dismissed after his arrest over allegations of acting outside his official responsibilities, obstruction of a government officials, obstruction of official duties, and breach of public peace.

If found guilty, he will face one year, two months, and 12 days in prison.

Naseer is under house arrest until the end of his trial.

The police probe indicate that Naseer was sent out in his tactical uniform to the opposition protests on February 1. After arriving at the protest area, Naseer had joined protesters and confronted other police officers by pushing the barricades and using foul language, investigators claimed.

At the hearing on Wednesday, he was given 10 days to appoint an attorney.
