A minor tremor had ensued 10 minutes prior to the one reported from across Gan island

Some regions of Laamu atoll have reportedly experienced tremors on Wednesday morning.

Speaking to RaajjeMV, Laamu atoll Gan island council chief Mohamed Siyam said that the tremor had occurred at around 11:35 a.m on Wednesday and that it lasted about 30 seconds.

The councile chief said almost all the districts of Gan had experienced the tremor with residents reporting from all provinces and that they believe it was an earthquake.

A minor tremor had ensued 10 minutes prior to the one reported from across the whole island.

Siyam said that several other islands in the atoll also reported the tremor as well.

Speaking to RaajjeMV, an official at the Maldives Meteorological Service (Met Office) said that a tremor had been reported from Laamu atoll on Wednesday morning but they did not detect an earthquake.

The official said that the matter will be confirmed after further investigation.

Council Chief Siyam said that they have also reported the tremor to the National Disaster Management Center (NDMC), adding that no such work that may cause tremors are currently being conducted in the island.
