State Minister at the Home Ministry, Shifaq 'Histo" Mufeed has been appointed as a Minister-Counselor at the Maldivian Embassy in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Shifaq's transfer comes right on the heels of former managing director of Fenaka Corporation, Mohamed Nimal's appointment to the embassy in Colombo; also as a Minister-Counselor.

Shifaq had previously served as the vice president at the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) and was appointed as a state minister at the home ministry hours after resigning from the HRCM post in May 2017. He has also been actively involved in President Abdulla Yameen's campaign for the 2018 presidential election.

Native to Fuvahmulah City, Shifaq started out his political career with Adhaaalath Party, but soon joined Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) and won the Central Fuvahmulah seat at People’s Majlis in 2009. He then joined Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) in 2012, and later joined Jumhooree Party (JP) in 2013 and became vice president of the party. He re-joined PPM in 2015, after it came to power.
