Two Maldivians arrested in Sri Lanka ecstasy bust
STF had conducted the raid upon an intelligence report while the suspects were on their way to sell the pills to customers
1,925 pills of Ecstasy worth more than Rs. 10 million were seized in the operation.

Two Maldivians have been arrested with a copious amount of narcotic pills within an operation run by Police Special Task Force (STF) of the Sri Lankan Police.

According to Sri Lankan media reports,, the suspects aged 19 and 25 were arrested from apartments in Kalubowila and Dehiwala districts of Colombo.

Speaking to media the STF said that 1,925 pills of Methylenedioxymethamphetamine, commonly known as Ecstasy worth more than Rs. 10 million were seized in the operation.

STF added that this is by far the largest quantity of such pills it had seized in raids.

Evidently the two Maldivians had imported the pills from The Netherlands through a courier service and it is suspected that apart from selling them in Sri Lanka, they were exporting them to other countries as well.

STF had conducted the raid upon an intelligence report while the suspects were on their way to sell the pills to customers.

The suspects have now been handed over to the Police Narcotic Bureau (Darshana Sanjeewa) and investigations are underway.
