The housing ministry has announced that it would be leasing the tsunami monument area for events and activities.

In a statement, the housing ministry said that the area is opened for rent under the same regulations as for parks and other public areas.

The ministry said that the tsunami monument area can be rented for MVR 100 to hold children’s activities. Private parties and organizations, schools, companies, and state institutions can rent the area for MVR 250.

The tsunami monument was moved to ‘Thin Ruh Park’ from Lonuziyaaraiy Magu in 2016 before the bridge construction began in the area.

The monument is in remembrance of the people who died during the 2004 tsunami. The 20 orbs represent the 20 affected atolls.
