MMPRC embezzlement: Criminal Court schedules hearing against ex-chief Ziyath
The hearing has been scheduled for 10:00 AM on Sunday
All eight charges are separate but have to do with a special audit report of the company
Ziyath is facing thirty charges over the embezzlement case

The Criminal Court has scheduled a hearing over eight charges against then Managing Director Abdulla Ziyath of the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Company (MMPRC), for the embezzlement case involving the company.

The hearing has been scheduled for 10:00 AM on Sunday. All eight charges are separate but have to do with a special audit report of the company, which revealed a discrepancy of MVR 1.22 billion.

Ziyath is facing thirty charges over the embezzlement case, for thirty islands that were allegedly leased unlawfully.

In August last year, prosecutors put forth these cases of graft and embezzlement against Ziyath while also putting forth nine cases of abusing power against jailed ex-Vice President Ahmed Adeeb.

These allegations are in relation to over 58 islands and lagoons which were reportedly leased unlawfully by the company during Ziyath’s time at its helm.

The Anti-Corruption Commission had investigated the matter and forwarded it to the police.
