The High Court has scheduled the appeal of a case accusing the police of negligence, filed by murdered writer Yameen Rasheed’s family.

The hearing has been scheduled at the High Court premises in capital city Malé for 11:15 AM on Sunday.

His father Hussein Rasheed earlier filed a case alleging that the police had neglected to address multiple death threats his son received before his brutal murder.

‘Yameen’s killing shows police’s failure to protect his life’, his family has said. Last year, Amnesty Intenrational called on the Maldivian government to investigate the police’s failure.

In a statement in April last year, Yameen’s father expressed concern over the lack of progress in the investigation, despite it being days since his son was killed and police revealing they have identified the culprits.

He further noted that he had stressed the importance of an independent investigation with the inclusion of international investigative bodies, as the family believes that a trustable investigation can only be conducted then.
