The preliminary hearing in the bribery case against opposition leader Qasim Ibrahim’s son, Siyad Qasim, is scheduled for Sunday.

The first hearing in the case is scheduled for 3pm next Sunday.

The Villa Company’s managing director was arrested on 6th February, less than 24 hours incumbent President Abdulla Yameen declared a state of emergency across the country.

Days prior to the expiration of the emergency, the Criminal Court had ordered to keep Siyad in remand until his trial concludes. He has since been transferred to Maafushi Prison, from Dhoonidhoo Detention Centre.

Siyad is accused of bribery, after documents found in Judicial Administrator Hassan Saeed’s home had allegedly implicated him in unlawful activities.

Trials against other state of emergency detainees commenced this week, including trials against former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, Chief Justice Abdulla Saeed and Justice Ali Hameed.
