The President’s Office has announced that December 31 will be a special non-working holiday.

According to the Office’s spokesperson, in a tweet posted in Dhivehi, President Abdulla Yameen has declared that December 31, a Sunday, will be a public holiday, in order ‘to make things easier for the employees’.

While the 1st of January has always been a public holiday, with the President’s decision civil servants will get a four-day weekend to celebrate the new year.

The government has organized a special show for New Years Eve, with international artists headlining the show, including Pakistani musician Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Indian singer Amrik Singh. More performers are yet to be announced, according to reports.
