Israel can choose to be civil or remain isolated: Maldives Ambassador to UN
128 members voted against decision to recognize Jerusalem as Capital of Israel

Israel can either choose the civilized side of life or remain isolated, unable to leave behind its mentality of colonialism and illegal occupation, said Maldives Ambassador to the United Nations (UN) Ali Naseer Mohamed.
He said this in a Twitter post Thursday after the UN voted overwhelmingly to reject US President Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
128 members voted on Thursday in favor of the resolution supporting the international consensus that the status of Jerusalem – which is claimed as a capital by both Israel and the Palestinians – can only be settled as an agreed final issue in a peace deal.
The resolution was co-sponsored by Turkey and Yemen.
