Heavy rain across the country has caused flooding in Meedhoo island of Dhaalu atoll, destroying homes.

Meedhoo council member, Mohamed Thaufeeg told RaajjeMv that the heavy rainfall started around 4 am on Thursday, causing flooding across the island.

He added that the flooding had led to 'water entering almost every house in the island', destroying property.

Thaufeeg said that officers of the Maldives Police Service (MPS), stationed at the island, and residents were working to control the flooding.

Furthermore, noting that the coast guard has been informed, Thaufeeg added that they have been a team is to arrive in Meedhoo from Kudahuvadhoo.
