Male' City Mayor Adam Azim has stated that the current facilities available to surfers are in poor condition, expressing his hope to establish comprehensive, high-quality facilities dedicated to the sport during his administration.
Former Vice President Faisal Naseem, who is contesting the upcoming MDP presidential primary, and his running mate Adam Azim have been visiting various areas of Malé to engage with the public. During a visit to the Raalhugandu area on Friday to watch an ongoing surfing competition, Azim met with local surfers and remarked that the waves in the area are of world-class caliber.
Azim stated that he recognizes the importance of providing surfers with a suitable location equipped with high-quality facilities.
We visited the competition being held here today and observed that the facilities provided for these young athletes are in a deplorable state. This is an issue that has been raised for many years without resolution. Therefore, we are committed to ensuring that under our administration, this area is properly developed into a pleasant environment—one that is easily accessible and accommodating for those participating in sports. Furthermore, there is a clear need for dedicated storage space for their equipment. It is often impractical to transport surfboards through the streets of Malé; carrying a longboard on a motorcycle is impossible. As a result, athletes are currently forced to rely on pickups or other inconvenient means just to get their gear to the beach.Adam Azim
Azim stated that this is a sport where athletes consistently achieve top honors and gold medals. Given its track record of success, he emphasized the necessity for better infrastructure and facilities to support the sport. Consequently, Azim pledged that under their administration, a state-of-the-art facility would be established for these athletes.
