On the occasion of the Maldives' 38th Victory Day, former Vice President Faisal Naseem issued a statement calling on the government to reject any investment that could potentially compromise the nation's independence and sovereignty.
Faisal stated that regardless of the potential for significant economic gain, no actions should be permitted that go against the will of the people or compromise the nation's independence.
Commencing his Victory Day address, Faisal offered prayers for the soul of Martyr Hussain Adam and the 19 Maldivian citizens who sacrificed their lives on November 3, 1988, in defense of Islam and the nation's sovereignty. He further commended the courage and resilience of the Maldivian people who endured the terror unleashed by the coup plotters on that dark day, particularly during the moments when the attackers used civilians as human shields while firing upon the military headquarters.
Faisal stated that the greatest lesson learned from the events of November 3 is the profound depth of patriotism and national spirit within the hearts of Maldivians. He noted that this same national pulse continues to beat within the Maldivian people today, serving as a reminder for every citizen to remain loyal and faithful to the nation. Furthermore, the address emphasized that it is the duty of every Maldivian to ensure that this land never falls under foreign influence.
Speaking on ongoing government projects, the former Vice President expressed concern over the lack of transparency regarding investment details for the Ras Malé project.
He stated that if investments are to be beneficial to the nation, they must be disclosed to the public with full transparency. Faisal described the potential for today's actions to yield adverse consequences tomorrow as a significant concern.
Furthermore, Faisal Naseem stated that the right to make independent decisions belongs to the people, and the government must listen to their voices and respect their concerns. He also emphasized in his address that the future of the Maldives should be shaped in a manner that creates opportunities for the upcoming younger generation.
