These remarks were specifically directed at the government's decision to grant a significant land area in Ras Male' to a foreign company, a move he warns could undermine the Maldives' territorial integrity and sovereign control.

Former Economic Minister Fayyaz Ismail has stated that the future of the Maldives is now in question, as the nation has fallen under the control of a group that rose to power claiming to defend national sovereignty and independence.
Fayyaz made these remarks in a post on X (formerly Twitter) commemorating Victory Day. He noted that this year’s Victory Day is being observed at a particularly sensitive time.
Fayyaz stated that the nation's future has been thrown into uncertainty under the leadership of those who rose to power claiming to defend national sovereignty and independence. He further noted that at this critical juncture, the nation commemorates the noble sacrifice and jihad of the heroes who courageously stood up to defend Maldivian soil in 1988.
Furthermore, Fayyaz offered prayers for the souls of all those who were martyred for the nation's independence, seeking for them the highest blessings of Paradise.
Fayyaz made these remarks at a time when the Maldivian government has decided to grant 500 hectares of land from Ras Male' to a company named "Eagle Hills." This move has sparked widespread concern among political figures and the general public, who fear it could lead to foreign settlement and allow foreign entities to exert greater influence than the local population.
