Parliament passes decision to increase salaries of Speaker, government ministers, and local council members

Additionally, a service allowance of 5,000 Rufiyaa has been introduced for local councilors, marking a significant increase in the overall salaries and benefits for high-ranking state officials.

The Parliament has approved a decision by the Public Accounts Committee to increase the Speaker’s salary to MVR 95,000 and set a monthly car allowance package of MVR 17,000 for cabinet ministers.
The Public Accounts Committee has decided to increase the allowance for the Speaker of Parliament by MVR 22,000. With this increment, the Speaker's total monthly remuneration will rise to MVR 95,125.
Furthermore, a decision has been made to grant councilors a service allowance of 5,000 Rufiyaa.
Furthermore, a decision has been made to increase the ministerial car allowance to MVR 17,000. With this adjustment, the total monthly remuneration for a cabinet minister, including salary and allowances, will reach MVR 75,500.
The Parliament passed this decision on Wednesday. A total of 42 members voted in favor of the resolution.
