Former Home Minister Sheikh Imran Abdulla has heavily criticized the government, labeling the Ras Male' project a massive "scam." He warned that should the state be required to pay compensation due to this project, the amount could approach a billion.
Speaking on RaajjeTV’s "Fashaairu" program, Sheikh Imran stated that the alleged permanent transfer of a significant portion of Ras Male' to the company Eagle Hills is a dangerous issue that threatens the state’s independence and sovereignty, as well as the sanctity of religion.
He therefore called on the government to cease such "scams," clarify the mistakes made to the public, and act in accordance with principles that are acceptable to the people's reason.
Accusing the government of being unable to disclose the expenditure details for the Ras Male' reclamation project, Sheikh Imran stated that the administration would not dare to reveal exactly how much money was paid to which specific company, even by tomorrow. He further noted that while the law mandates transparency in how state-approved budget funds are spent, the government refuses to do so because they have "plundered and stolen from the state." Sheikh Imran also remarked that while citizens may decide on other matters at the end of a five-year term, an issue of this magnitude would not be so easily resolved or forgotten once concluded.
If you intend to take action, then come forward to discuss it. If you wish to clarify these matters, come prepared with a clear understanding of the errors that have been made. Stop this scam; abandon this fraudulent scheme.Sheikh Imran Abdulla
Referring to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, Sheikh Imran stated that the President is "highly skilled at facilitating compensation" for companies.
In this regard, Sheikh Imran highlighted that while holding a state position, the individual in question had initially terminated the agreement with Noomadi, only to later provide testimony in favor of the company, resulting in a substantial compensation payout.
Sheikh Imran further stated that, drawing parallels to the GMR case and considering the scale of investments under this project, any potential future compensation could reach nearly a billion dollars. He added that if a president attempts to burden the state with such an unsustainable financial liability, it becomes the duty of every citizen to protect the nation from such a predicament.
