Government yet to present any plans to Male' City Council for implementation of any projects: Azim

While maintaining that the council remains cooperative, Azim noted that the government has failed to share essential project plans or budgetary details with them. Furthermore, the Mayor accused the government of actively working to undermine the constitutional powers and autonomy of local councils.

Male' City Mayor Adam Azim has stated that the government has yet to present any concrete project plans to the City Council, emphasizing that the council has approved every request submitted by the administration to date.
In an interview following a meeting with residents of Male' City, Mayor Azim stated that the Male' City Council will not obstruct any initiatives related to the welfare of the public. In this regard, Azim noted that it has been a significant amount of time since the land was handed over to the government for the construction of a wholesale market.
Referring to President's Office Spokesperson Mohamed Hussain Shareef’s claims that cooperation is not being extended to government projects, Azim noted that this administration has reclaimed and laid foundations for more land than any previous government. Azim further stated that the spokesperson's ignorance of these facts either demonstrates his incompetence or suggests he is intentionally being untruthful.
To date, the Council has approved and facilitated every request made by the government. We will never obstruct any matter that is in the interest of the public. In line with this, it has been a considerable amount of time since the land was handed over for the construction of the fish market. As you are aware, the Council has promptly finalized every necessary decision to ensure the project could begin immediately, recognizing its vital importance. Furthermore, regarding the plots of land that have been reclaimed from us so far, there has been no indication of any project development taking place on them, nor have we been informed of any allocated budgets for such works.Adam Azim
Mayor Azim stated that such actions are intended solely to harass the public. He further noted that the current administration has utilized the Parliament to amend laws specifically to prevent councils from fulfilling the needs and requests of the citizens.
Furthermore, Azim provided assurances that the Male' City Council remains steadfast in its commitment to serving the public.
