Former Home Minister Sheikh Imran Abdulla has stated that the public is engaged in a profound "silent protest," seeking divine intervention through late-night prayers and supplications to protect Maldivian lands from Zionist influence.
In response to a question from RaajjeTV during a press conference on Monday regarding growing concerns that a significant portion of Ras Male' is being permanently handed over to Eagle Hills, Imran stated that the public has been engaged in this silent protest for nearly a month.
Imran stated his opposition to the project, noting that he intends to seek a meeting with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu before initiating any formal actions against it.
Our prayers, offered upon the conclusion of our daily worship, serve as a plea for the liberation of our land from Zionist occupation. For those who attend the pre-dawn Tahajjud prayers, the supplications made during those quiet hours constitute a powerful, silent protest. Similarly, when people gather near mosques to break their fast together, their shared prayers and conversations regarding this cause represent a profound act of silent resistance. Even during evening leisure hours in public parks, the simple act of discussing these issues and sharing our sentiments with one another serves as a form of silent protest. Furthermore, dedicating two to three hours of daily airtime on all our television stations to this cause remains a significant and steadfast silent protest.Sheikh Imran Abdulla
Furthermore, Imran stated that if President Muizzu truly listens to the grievances and sentiments of the people and respects the nation's sovereignty, he would not sign this agreement.
Referring to the statements made by President Muizzu during the election campaign and on July 26, he emphasized that the President must genuinely prioritize the side of the people, as he has claimed. Furthermore, he urged the President to respond to the movement's primary request for a formal meeting.
Referring to the upcoming steps and activities planned to oppose the project, Imran stated that a formidable team well-versed in the dynamics of national governance is behind this movement, noting that only a few members of that team were present at the meeting. He further noted that the team is closely monitoring developments and warned that any escalation from the opposing side would be met with a corresponding response.
When one side escalates and the other responds in kind, it is often the most powerful actors who are forced to pause and reconsider.Sheikh Imran Abdulla
Imran stated that 80 percent of the Maldivian population stands with them, expressing confidence that the movement will succeed.
