Former Home Minister Sheikh Imran Abdulla has stated that he intends to seek a meeting with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu before proceeding with any further major actions regarding concerns that a significant portion of Ras Male' is being permanently handed over to the Eagle Hills company.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Imran clarified that their opposition is not directed at foreign investment, but rather at the seizure of Maldivian land. He emphasized that they would not allow Zionists the opportunity to seize the country's territory. Imran further asserted that President Muizzu cannot sell off the nation to secure $500 million for the purpose of guaranteeing his victory in the 2028 presidential election.
Referring to the "Dhivehinge Bin Dhivehinnah" movement launched to oppose the sale of Ras Male', Imran stated that this initiative is the culmination of extensive efforts by numerous individuals over the past month. He further noted that behind this team stands a group of highly capable and resilient individuals, possessed of even greater passion and determination, who will step forward when the time is right.
Imran stated that this movement is not limited to a few individuals or a couple of news outlets. He emphasized that they are backed by the youth, women, and key figures within the government who are prepared to fulfill their necessary roles. Furthermore, Imran asserted that once the influential figures behind the movement step forward, it will become evident that 80 percent of the nation's citizens stand firmly behind them.
Noting that people across the atolls are eagerly awaiting a signal to act, Imran stated that they would not be traveling by traditional sailing dhows; instead, they would arrive in Male' swiftly via speedboats and airlines. However, he added that many hope to see this matter resolved through a very peaceful protest.
Furthermore, Imran stated that he intends to seek a meeting with President Muizzu before proceeding with any major further actions regarding this movement. He added that the future course of the movement would become clear following that meeting.
I am requesting President Muizzu to meet with us, accompanied by any individual of his choice, even if it is his spouse. This would ensure that both the President and his associates directly hear the matters we are raising.Sheikh Imran Abdulla
Imran has called on President Muizzu to conclude the matter by announcing tomorrow that the project will not proceed in its current form, after having listened to the public's concerns over the past month.
