As the entire administration rallies in defense of the Ras Male' project, the prolonged silence of Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed has sparked widespread public speculation.
A reliable source has informed RaajjeMV that the President's Office has instructed senior government officials and political appointees to defend the Rasmalé project.
Despite these directives from the President's Office, the silence of Economic Minister Saeed has raised significant public concern. This reaction stems from the Minister's lack of comment at a time when the government is actively defending the project, asserting it will drive economic growth and resolve the country's ongoing dollar shortage.
The Maldivian government has signed an agreement with renowned Abu Dhabi-based developer Eagle Hills to undertake a massive $20 billion project in Ras Male'. Under this agreement, an international-standard waterfront and marina development is set to be constructed. While the government has highlighted this as one of the largest foreign investment projects in Maldivian history, the public continues to express significant concerns regarding the initiative.
Despite President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s earlier assurances that not a single grain of sand from the land reclaimed under the Ras Male' project would be handed over to foreign parties, the government has now revealed plans to lease the land to a UAE-based company for a period of 99 years.
A constitutional case concerning matters of significant public interest has been filed with the Supreme Court of the Maldives, challenging the validity of the "Commercial Terms Agreement" signed between the Maldivian government and Eagle Hills properties for the development of Ras Male'.
