Surveillance cameras installed inside Housing Ministry to monitor employees

The Ministry of Housing has installed internal surveillance cameras to monitor the activities of its employees.
The security cameras were installed at a time when police have begun patrolling the Ministry, following reports that several important documents related to the Ras Male' project have gone missing.
A ministry official, speaking on condition of anonymity, reported that police officers have been stationed on guard at the entrance of the Housing Ministry building for the past two nights.
He further stated that the move has created tension among the staff, with some employees suggesting that Minister Abdulla Muththalib made the decision due to a lack of trust in the workforce.
Furthermore, an employee who spoke to this newspaper stated that the installation of cameras inside the building has further exacerbated the existing tensions.
A police forensic team conducted an investigation at the Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing, and Urban Development during an operation carried out last Friday around 7:30 p.m.
While sources have confirmed that a police forensic team was active at the Ministry following reports of missing key documents related to the Ras Male' project, the police issued a statement clarifying their presence.
According to the statement, officers attended the Ministry at approximately 7:18 p.m. on Friday, September 25, 2026, in response to a report that lockers containing official documents had been opened in violation of established procedures.
