Saeed: A movement must be launched to promote cycling and turn it into a lifestyle trend

The Minister stated that rather than viewing these habits as outdated, they should be embraced as modern trends for the future through dedicated initiatives. He further noted that returning to the traditional Maldivian practice of cycling would bring significant advancements to both public health and the national transportation system.

Minister of Economic Development, Transport and Trade Mohamed Saeed, speaking at a press briefing, emphasized the importance of re-establishing a culture of cycling and walking to promote a healthier lifestyle in the Maldives.
The Minister stated that this is a necessary step to ensure the health and well-being of the community.
Speaking to reporters, Minister Saeed stated that he believes special movements or initiatives must be launched to encourage bicycle commuting. He further emphasized that cycling should not be viewed as "old-fashioned" or outdated.
Speaking in this regard, the Minister stated that reflecting on the Maldivian way of life during the seventies, eighties, and nineties, it would be beneficial to return to the cycling culture that prevailed during those decades. The Minister described this not only as a shift in the transportation system but also as a significant step toward a healthier lifestyle.
Furthermore, the Minister emphasized the importance of ensuring such initiatives are embraced as a trend within the community. He also noted that these changes are essential considerations for the future.
