Nasheed: Incompetent Leadership Undermines Maldives’ Independence and Sovereignty

He argued that the nation's independence and sovereignty are being jeopardized by the administration's lack of geopolitical awareness, warning that having leaders who are uninformed about the global landscape poses a significant threat to the country.

MDP Chairperson and former President Mohamed Nasheed has launched a scathing critique of President Muizzu, asserting that the nation's independence and sovereignty are being compromised because those in power lack basic awareness and a fundamental understanding of global affairs. Nasheed remarked that such challenges arise when "ignorant individuals" are placed in leadership positions.
Speaking at the 5th MDP Congress, President Nasheed stated that the current administration's foreign policy demonstrates a complete lack of clarity on how to maintain international relations. He further noted that the country's leadership appears to have no understanding of global trends or the current geopolitical landscape.
President Nasheed stated that the government is acting without any sense of order or principle. In this regard, he heavily criticized the administration's foreign policy.
They would urge the UAE to bomb Iran, only to visit the UAE the very next day to discuss financial aid. They would travel to Turkey to purchase drones, and on that same trip, visit Saudi Arabia. They would go to China and then proceed to India within the same journey. These individuals simply fail to comprehend the complexities of how the world actually functions.Mohamed Nasheed
Furthermore, asserting that the nation’s governance should not be entrusted to such individuals, President Nasheed emphasized that the Maldives' independence and sovereignty are not jeopardized by permitting foreign investors to conduct business or allowing foreign nationals to reside within the country.
