A flydubai Boeing 737 MAX 8 was grounded at Velana International Airport on Wednesday after a fuel bowser collided with the aircraft shortly after landing. The collision caused damage to the aircraft's wing, prompting the airline to cancel its scheduled flight to Colombo as engineers began inspection and repair work. No injuries were reported among the passengers or crew during the incident.
The incident occurred during ground handling operations at the airport. flydubai stated that efforts are underway to arrange an alternative aircraft for passengers whose travel was disrupted by the event. This marks the second time in recent days that a major airline has encountered such a ground incident in the region. A similar mishap previously involved an Emirates aircraft at Manchester Airport.
Relevant authorities at Velana International Airport have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the accident and to implement measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future. The aircraft remains grounded in Male' while a comprehensive assessment of the damage to its wing is conducted, ensuring all necessary safety protocols and repairs are completed.
