Passengers scheduled to travel on a Maldivian flight to the Maldives on Monday evening have been stranded at India’s Cochin International Airport following a technical issue with the aircraft.
Passengers faced significant hardships following the incident, as Maldivian failed to provide any assistance, including accommodation or arrangements for breaking their fast.
Maldivian flight Q2 707, which was scheduled to depart from Cochin International Airport for Velana International Airport at 4:00 PM on Monday, has been canceled due to a technical issue.
Speaking to RaajjeMV, a passenger stranded in Cochin reported that Maldivian failed to provide any information regarding the flight cancellation, even as the scheduled departure time arrived on Monday afternoon. Passengers had already checked in and received their boarding passes by that time. The passenger further noted that they were only informed the flight would not depart as scheduled more than an hour after the original departure time had passed.
The passenger stated that Maldivian has yet to officially notify them of the flight cancellation. However, ground staff at the Cochin International Airport counter reportedly informed travelers that there is no guarantee that passengers scheduled for today’s and tomorrow’s flights will be able to travel to Male'.
The latest update provided to passengers indicated that information regarding their departure would be available after 8:00 p.m. Monday night, following an engineering assessment of the technical issues affecting the aircraft.
Passengers who spoke to RaajjeMV reported that Maldivian failed to provide any accommodation or arrangements for breaking their fast. As a result, passengers have been forced to endure significant hardships.
While delays have become a common occurrence for Maldivian flights, the number of recent cancellations has also seen a significant rise. This is not the first time passengers have faced such disruptions; technical issues have previously left Maldivian travelers stranded in India on multiple occasions.
