The Maldives Police Service has announced that walking across the Sinamale' Bridge to reach Hulhule' or Hulhumale' is strictly prohibited, warning that legal action will be taken against those who violate this regulation.
Police stated that since the inauguration of the Sinamale' Bridge on August 30, 2018, it has been strictly prohibited to cross the bridge on foot or by running to reach the airport or Hulhumale'.
However, police noted that some individuals have been observed crossing the barricades set up to close off the walkway on the airport side of the Sinamale' Bridge.
Noting that this is an unauthorized activity and highlighting the potential for tragic accidents, the police stated that signs have been installed prohibiting pedestrian access to the area to ensure public safety and security.
Police have stated that legal action will be taken against individuals who bypass these boards and signage.
The police have issued a reminder that pedestrians are prohibited from crossing the Sinamale' Bridge to travel between Hulhumale' and Hulhule'. This notice comes amid recurring incidents of expatriates being spotted walking across the bridge with luggage to reach the airport.
