In an interview with RaajjeTV, Goidhoo Council Member Mohamed Nafiz stated that the physical construction of the island's police station commenced following a visit by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu in late 2025.
Nafiz stated that although the project was initially launched with promises of rapid progress, all work has now come to a complete standstill. He noted that on the 17,000-square-foot site, only the concrete pillars are currently visible, marking the extent of the development. He further highlighted that the project has remained stalled for a significant period, with no further progress made since those pillars were first erected.
Furthermore, Nafiz stated that the sacks of stones and gravel brought for the project are deteriorating and rotting, while the stored cement has hardened and solidified. He also expressed concern over the reinforcement steel bars brought for the construction, noting that they are being damaged by heavy rusting.
Nafiz stated that there is no reason for projects to be stalled due to council interference or a refusal to provide land, contrary to President Muizzu’s assertions. Noting that the Goidhoo Council is controlled by a PNC majority, he further highlighted that the lack of information sharing regarding the projects has made it difficult for the council to monitor their progress effectively.
The foundation stone for the Goidhoo Police Station was laid on August 12, 2025.
