The Controller General of Maldives Immigration, Commissioner of Police (Retired) Ahmed Faseeh, has called upon corrections officers to uphold the human dignity of detainees and ensure their work is carried out without violating their fundamental human rights.

Speaking as the guest of honor at the graduation ceremony for the Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) "Induction Training Program" for new recruits on Friday night, Faseeh highlighted that corrections officers continue to perform demanding duties despite significant budgetary constraints and limited resources.

Noting that the management of prisons has significantly improved with the presence of currently trained officers, Faseeh stated that he has maintained a close relationship with the Maldives Correctional Service since his time in the National Security Service. He further shared that he had gained experience and training by working in two prisons in Singapore. Faseeh added that, recognizing the importance of a well-functioning prison system, he had worked towards establishing high-quality facilities and developing professional human resources within the service.

Faseeh stated that, considering the previous conditions of the prisons, there was a significant shortage of correctional officers, and security was maintained by the National Security Service (NSS).

Faseeh urged officers to submit their resignations if they ever contemplated engaging in misconduct while in uniform. He further emphasized the importance of sincerity and integrity in fulfilling national duties, advising personnel to uphold the human dignity of detainees and ensure their human rights are protected at all times.

Ten officers have officially joined the workforce after successfully completing a training program held from August 30 to September 17. The graduation ceremony took place at the Maldives Customs Service conference hall. This marks the third batch of the training program, which is primarily designed to equip prison officers with the essential skills, duties, and responsibilities required for their roles.
