Haalu Kihineh? B. Hithaadhoo: Enough is enough; it is time to stop!

Residents of B. Hithaadhoo, speaking on RaajjeTV’s "Haalu Kihineh?" program, have voiced deep concerns regarding the significant hardships they currently face in their daily lives. They specifically highlighted the stagnation of development projects, the skyrocketing cost of goods, and the numerous challenges encountered in accessing essential medication.

Elderly residents who spoke with RaajjeTV highlighted a persistent shortage of medication in Hithaadhoo, noting that they are often forced to source prescriptions from abroad when supplies are unavailable nationwide. One individual shared that they must travel to Male' for every medical consultation, frequently having to visit multiple pharmacies across the capital just to secure their required medication.

"I just returned from Eydhafushi the other day, and not once was I able to get all my prescriptions filled at once. I have to call around to Malé and other places just to source the medication. My husband's medicine always has to be purchased out of pocket; even this month, we had to spend 882 Rufiyaa on external purchases. We are forced to buy them ourselves because Aasandha coverage is unavailable."

A former Fenaka employee stated that he was informed of his dismissal while he was in the process of signing a new employment agreement during the company's transition to STELCO. He further asserted that there were no valid grounds for his termination.

Furthermore, she expressed concern regarding the difficulties faced in obtaining the single parent allowance.

The single parent allowance is not actually being received, despite claims of a 12,000-Rufiyaa payout. I was told I did not meet the eligibility criteria. Perhaps that was because I was employed at the time, but even after being terminated, I am still struggling to get it sorted out as they keep claiming documentation is missing. Furthermore, most people who do eventually receive the allowance say the processing period takes anywhere from eight to nine months before the funds are actually released.

Another employee dismissed from Fenaka has also shared their concerns. The individual stated that they have already filed a case with the Employment Tribunal.

On July 22nd, while I was away on leave, I received a phone call. I was told that STELCO officials were on their way and was asked to head over to the school area. They were reportedly coming to hand over uniforms, identification cards, and other items. However, while I was waiting, the assistant manager from this side called me to say that the officials had reached the harbor entrance but then turned back. I was then informed that my name was not included on the list.

Furthermore, residents of Hithaadhoo have expressed concern over the lack of progress on several projects promised by President Muizzu, including land reclamation, the construction of a multi-purpose hall, and the development of a football stadium.

A resident of Hithaadhoo stated that an unprecedented level of activity took place leading up to the council elections. He noted that Fenaka Corporation employed 12 individuals and granted promotions to 10 others, while MTCC recruited four people. Furthermore, he revealed that two individuals were hired for the construction of a multi-purpose hall, despite work on the project having not yet commenced.

However, he claimed that the council elections were not successful and stated that this was the reason behind the ongoing dismissals of employees.

Residents of Hithaadhoo claim that the current administration has failed to address the island's deteriorating conditions. Speaking to the press, locals emphasized that a solution can only be achieved through a change in government.
