The B. Hithaadhoo Island Council has expressed deep concern over the prolonged delay in the construction of the local football stadium, noting that the project remains stalled due to the Ministry of Finance's failure to release the necessary funds. Despite residents vacating agricultural land to facilitate the development, the project has seen no physical progress, leading to growing public frustration over the unfulfilled presidential pledge.

The Hithaadhoo Island Council has expressed concern over the prolonged delays in commencing the construction of the island's football stadium.

Expressing his concern to RaajjeTV, the President of the B. Hithaadhoo Island Council, Hafiz Khalid, stated that although the football stadium project was scheduled to commence in 2024, work has yet to begin.

Subsequently, during President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s visit to Hithadhoo in 2025, a group of Grade 10 students expressed their concerns regarding the lack of a turf football pitch. According to Hafiz, the President assured the students that the facility would be completed and ready for use by the time they finished their GCE Ordinary Level examinations.

However, Hafiz expressed concern over the continued delays, noting that work has yet to commence even as these students complete their O-Levels and the current academic year draws to a close.

Furthermore, Hafiz highlighted public concerns regarding land allocated for farming that remains unused, noting that agricultural activities have failed to progress on these plots.

This area was previously allocated to residents for agricultural use. However, following the launch of a new farming project, the public was instructed to vacate the land. At the time, it was stated that work would commence within one month of Badahi Investment taking over the contract, which is why the Council ordered the clearing of the site. It has now been a year since the residents vacated the land, yet the project remains stalled. As a result, the Council is receiving a significant number of complaints from the public.

This project has been awarded to Badhahi Investment.

Hafiz stated that when he contacted the Sports Ministry for an update on the project, he was informed that the delay in the stadium's completion was due to a lack of funding from the Finance Ministry. He further noted that the Ministry assured him the stadium would be completed before the end of this year.

However, Hafiz also noted that no work has commenced yet.
