The HPA is urging the public to increase fluid intake and maintain strict hygiene standards, such as regular handwashing, following a rise in cases of diarrhea and vomiting across the Maldives. The agency advises individuals to seek medical attention promptly if symptoms worsen and recommends staying home for at least 24 hours after recovery to prevent further transmission of the illness.

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has strongly urged the public to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions following a surge in cases of diarrhea and vomiting across various regions of the Maldives.

HPA has emphasized the critical importance of seeking immediate medical attention if symptoms of diarrhea and vomiting escalate to a serious condition.

Key symptoms requiring medical consultation include persistent vomiting, extreme fatigue, and a significant decrease in fluid intake. Other warning signs include dizziness, excessive thirst, severe abdominal pain, the presence of blood in vomit or stool, and an unusual reduction in urine output.

To prevent the spread of the disease and avoid dehydration if infected, HPA has advised the public to increase their intake of fluids, including Oral Rehydration Salts (ORS), water, and nutritious liquids such as soup. Furthermore, the agency emphasized the importance of personal hygiene, urging individuals to wash their hands thoroughly with soap after using the toilet and before preparing food. It also recommended ensuring that toilets are properly cleaned and sanitized after use.

Furthermore, to prevent community transmission, HPA has urged parents to keep children home from school and advised adults to refrain from attending work until at least 24 hours have passed since they last exhibited any symptoms.
