The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has announced that results for suspected measles samples will be available within 24 to 48 hours of being received by the Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) laboratory.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) made these remarks amid growing public frustration over delays in receiving measles test results. The backlog has forced numerous individuals who traveled to the capital from various islands to remain in Male', unable to return home as planned.
Regarding this matter, the Health Protection Agency (HPA) further clarified that individuals who undergo testing after exhibiting symptoms must remain in isolation for a period of four days, starting from the day the rash first appears. The agency added that these individuals will be permitted to return to public life and reintegrate into the community once this isolation period has concluded.

However, members of the public have been raising concerns over significant delays in receiving test results. In one such instance, an individual who provided a sample at Hulhumalé Hospital last Wednesday was reportedly informed by the IGMH laboratory that results would take between five to seven days, following an inquiry made after a lengthy wait.
Furthermore, reports indicate that the laboratory has informed him that it is now safe for him to resume public activities.
As measles continues to spread across the Maldives, the latest statistics reveal that a total of 199 cases have been recorded to date. To curb the transmission of the disease, relevant authorities are actively conducting sample testing and carrying out vaccination programs.
