Major changes to Grade 1 textbooks next year: Minister Shafeeu

Minister of Education, Higher Education and Skills Development Dr. Ismail Shafeeu has announced that significant changes will be introduced to Grade 1 textbooks starting next year.

Speaking at the 8th International Teachers' Conference, Minister Shafeeu stated that essential reforms are currently being implemented to strengthen the education system, in line with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s vision and manifesto. The Minister further noted that significant progress is already being achieved through these efforts.

Minister Shafeeu stated that necessary reforms are being implemented to enhance student performance. In this regard, the Minister noted that significant changes will be introduced to the textbooks for Key Stage 1, Grade 1 students starting next year.

In various meetings, including previous teachers' conferences, high achiever award ceremonies, and different forums we have hosted, one of the most prominent topics I have consistently highlighted is student attainment. It is undeniably true that we must improve current levels of student achievement.

Minister Shafeeu highlighted that while changes may be made to textbooks, real transformation is only achieved through the dedication and efforts of teachers. He further noted that the focus should not be solely on the books themselves, but rather on the approach and mindset adopted in shaping the students' education.

Furthermore, Minister Shafeeu stated that efforts are underway to bridge the gap between secondary and higher secondary education.
