The government has decided to restructure Agro National Corporation Limited as a subsidiary of the Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company Limited (MIFCO).
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu announced this during a press conference held on Monday.
The President stated that this change will facilitate the expansion of AgroNAT's business operations, support the achievement of food security goals, and further develop the nation's agricultural industry.
It has also been decided that the Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) will manage the new market being developed in Malé, which is specifically dedicated to the sale of agricultural and fisheries products.
The President stated that the market facility will be handed over to MIFCO upon its completion, which is scheduled for December 10, 2027.
AgroNAT was established in 2020 as a state-owned enterprise, with the primary objectives of ensuring fair pricing for local farmers and facilitating the distribution of agricultural produce to the market.
The current administration has disclosed its decision to dissolve Agro National Corporation within the year 2024.
At the time, the government decided to transfer the company under the Maldives Industrial Development Free Zone Public Limited. The company stated then that the restructuring process was underway, following the recommendation of its parent company, the Maldives Fund Management Corporation Limited.
