Adam Shameem has been appointed as the Chief Judicial Administrator, the highest administrative position within the Maldivian judiciary. Shameem previously served as a legal counsel for the People’s National Congress (PNC) and represented President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu as his defense attorney in the Noomadi case.
A total of 10 candidates applied for the position by the deadline, which expired on July 19.
By the application deadline, the candidates who had applied for the position were Hoodh Mohamed (Valuge, GDh. Madaveli), Ahmed Rifath (Seefiyage, R. Maduvvari), Adam Shameem (Malaaz, Dh. Maaenboodhoo), Aminath Nashmee Fadheel (M. Zeyvaru, Male'), Aishath Hikma (Asrafeevilla, S. Hithadhoo), Ismail Sajid (Ma. Villarodi, Male'), Mohamed Niyaz (Nitrose, M. Rathmandhoo), Maryam Shahana (M. Medhuriya, Male'), Maryam Nihayath (M. Thaaj, Male'), and Shafeeqa Naeem (Beachside, F. Nilandhoo).
An official from the institution has confirmed Shameem's appointment to the position. Shameem previously served as a legal representative for the PNC and was also a member of former President Abdulla Yameen's legal team.
The basic salary for this position is MVR 30,000. In addition, the successful candidate will receive an executive allowance of MVR 27,235 and a phone allowance of MVR 2,000.
The Chief Judicial Administrator serves as the highest administrative authority for all courts operating under the judicial branch.
The responsibilities of this position include establishing the administrative framework of the courts, as well as overseeing disciplinary actions and dismissals. Furthermore, the appointee is vested with the authority to appoint and remove court registrars.
Furthermore, the responsibilities of this position include determining the number of judges for Maldivian courts, in consultation with the Judicial Service Commission (JSC). This role plays a pivotal part in the administration of the Maldivian justice system.
