Protesters call for Muizzu’s resignation while advocating for rights of dismissed employees in Foakaidhoo

Protests have erupted on the island of Sh. Foakaidhoo following the dismissal of 13 employees from the local Fenaka Corporation branch.

During a protest held by the residents of Foakaidhoo on Sunday night, demonstrators called for the resignation of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu if he is unable to effectively govern the country. The protesters also demanded the immediate resignation of the senior management at the local Fenaka Corporation branch.

During the protest, the residents of Foakaidhoo called on the government to end the victimization of the island's community. The protesters emphasized that the impact of these job terminations extends beyond the individual employees, forcing their entire families and dependents to suffer the consequences.

The Fenaka Corporation branch in Foakaidhoo dismissed 13 employees on Sunday without any prior notice. The Foakaidhoo Island Council has condemned the move, stating that terminating employees based on their political affiliation under the guise of "right-sizing" state-owned enterprises is a grave injustice to the public.

The Foakaidhoo Council has met with the dismissed employees, offering assurances of their unwavering support for the staff and their families during this challenging time. Furthermore, the council issued a formal statement strongly condemning the dismissals. In its statement, the council highlighted that these actions directly contradict the pledges previously made by President Muizzu.

Under the guise of corporate "rightsizing," the government is unfairly dismissing numerous employees from state-owned enterprises. On Sunday alone, a significant number of staff were terminated from companies in F. Feeali, Magoodhoo, and Fuvahmulah City.
