Concerns have emerged regarding the neglect of the newly constructed powerhouse and office building in Sh. Foakaidhoo, which were inaugurated during former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s administration. Reports indicate that the facility has been poorly maintained, with significant damage being caused by oil leaks and a lack of proper cleaning.
An employee dismissed from Fenaka Corporation on the 16th of this month has revealed that the powerhouse at the Foakaidhoo branch has not been cleaned for nearly a year. The former employee alleged that despite having 54 staff members at the branch, the facility is being neglected because it was constructed during the MDP administration. He further claimed that current management has explicitly instructed employees not to clean the premises.
The power plant is deteriorating due to poor maintenance, with several pipes corroded and suffering from water and fuel leaks. Reports indicate that the facility has become heavily contaminated by waste oil spills from the engines, while a malfunctioning pump has caused ongoing leakage from the desalination plant.
Furthermore, reports indicate that the sewage vehicle used at the branch is left exposed to the elements without any maintenance. Allegations have also been made that Fenaka officials have been operating the vehicle without a valid driving license.
Regarding the matter, Abdulla Mahid, a senior PNC activist and the station manager, stated that the Fenaka powerhouse and the new office are cleaned and maintained regularly. Addressing the circulating videos, Mahid clarified that the footage showing the building covered in water and waste oil was recorded while a damaged generator was being dismantled. He further asserted that the videos were released with the intent of spreading misinformation.

Significant damage has already been sustained at the Sh. Foakaidhoo powerhouse and office building due to poor maintenance. Furthermore, allegations have surfaced that authorities have failed to carry out proper repairs despite recurring leaks caused by burst water pipes. | RaajjeMV
The newly constructed modern powerhouse and office building in Foakaidhoo were officially inaugurated on February 4, 2022, by then-President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. Under this project, the old powerhouse was decommissioned, and the facility's capacity was upgraded to 1.5 megawatts. The initiative also involved modernizing the distribution network by laying 3,000 meters of cabling and installing four transformers to establish a high-voltage grid. At the time, Fenaka Corporation stated that the facility was developed with the resources necessary to meet the island's needs for the next 50 years.
